Primary school teacher
Teaching children in the early school years
What people in this work actually do
Plan and teach lessons, assess and support each child's progress, manage a classroom, keep records, meet parents, and take part in school activities and examinations.
This may suit you if…
You are patient with children, you can explain something five different ways, and you want work with obvious social value and a stable routine.
Large classes with very mixed ability. Administrative work beyond teaching. Government posts require competitive examinations and the wait can be long. Private school pay is often low relative to the qualification.
We show these because nobody else will.
What people get wrong about this
That it is easy work with short hours. Preparation, marking and parent handling extend well beyond school hours.
What this looks like in a smaller town
Government primary posts exist in every block and are among the most sought-after stable jobs in rural areas; the route runs through a teacher-training qualification and then a recruitment examination.
Ways into this work
There is almost always more than one route, and the cheapest is often perfectly respected.
